story.
This painting was completed in a “Hero’s Journey” class taught by Linda Jacobson, artist and instructor. It was a six-month course that met on weekends in Malibu. It was my second class with Linda, and my second art class ever. My first class, also taught by Linda, was entitled “Healing Through Art”. During the “Hero’s Journey” class, we were encouraged to practice disciplined freedom, where nothing was complicated. All moments were based in pure spontaneity and play. Near the end of one particular session, I recall Linda saying “5 minutes to finish”. It was then when I truly began. Quickly I started doodling using crayon. I started to put “stuff” down on paper. Mary who was working opposite of me had all sorts of material. I saw her colored ink and asked if I could use some, and of course she said yes. I used the ink to create the color streaks on the orange stripe. The exercise was over and we moved on.dedication.
It’s a miracle that this picture survived. Many of my originals were thrown out because I just didn’t know any better. I was going to toss this painting, but a friend convinced me to save it. He then framed it for me, and gave it to me as a gift. At this time I did not know about line, form, structure, and composition. This was about experiencing the authentic self and I will never forget this experience. I want to thank Linda Jacobson for her creative spirit and guidance, and I also want to thank all of the creative spirits past, present, and future.Elizabeth’s Canvas prints are great for your walls and they are fantastic gifts.
